Hi all,
I just thought that I would let you know that my cousin Brad's test results were positive for CJD. The doctors were quite certain; however, there was a glimmer of hope that it was something else.
He is from Rockwood and a lady in Kingston died from this 2-3 months ago. Brad's wife, a nurse, is contacting the CDC to advise them of this.
This is a very rare disease - only 200 cases per year. And for 2 cases to occur within 15-20 miles of each other independently (Brad nor his family had ever met this woman) makes the coincidence rate approach the one in a trillion chance range.
While these are similarities between CJD and BSE "mad cow disease" there is no conclusive proof of transmittal from bovine to human.
As a precautionary measure and due to the worries over hormone-augmented beef, we have elected to eliminate beef from our diets. We ask that you review the information on CJD and decide for yourself.
